Installation

How is the MiX 3000 solution installed?

The MiX 3000 should only be installed by an approved MiX Telematics installer or dealer. Installation is non-invasive and will not affect the warranty of the vehicle.

MiX 3000 Services

How and where do I select the services I want?

The MiX 3000 offers a wide range of services which you can select and customise. Choose only the services that you need on this website. Go to “My Profile” and select “Update My Vehicle’s Profile” and then “Event Settings”. Events and notifications can be changed at any time.

Can I change my username?

Once your username has been registered, it cannot be changed. You can, however, change your password via the “My Profile” menu. Vehicle and other personal details may also be changed.

What do I do if I forget my password?

When you set up your account, we require a security question and answer. If you forget your password, simply click on the “forgot your password” link and then enter your username and security answer. A new password will be emailed to the address you supplied upon registration on the MiX 3000 web site.

Can I give other people access to see my vehicles?

Yes, you can. You can create them as guest users and they will be able to view your vehicles, and all the configuration detail, but will not be able to edit any of the information. Naturally, you, as the principal account holder, will need to manage this yourself.

Can I create sub-accounts and only provide certain people permission to see the sub accounts?

No. There is no functionality that would allow site management – the best way would be for you to be able to create guest users if you want other people to see your vehicles.

Driver ID and Business / Private Driving

Pair multiple remotes with one unit and identify which drivers have driven a vehicle. You have the ability to pair up to ten remotes per vehicle (one unit per vehicle) and therefore can view historical and live tracking for up to ten different drivers of one vehicle.

Set up your Driver ID feature as follows:
-       Sign in to the website
-       Go to MY PROFILE >> UPDATE MY VEHICLE’S PROFILE and click on ADVANCED SETTINGS to enable Driver ID
-       Go to MY PROFILE in the top navigation bar and select UPDATE MY VEHICLE’S PROFILE, then click on OTHER ACTIONS. Scroll down to the section on pairing new remotes and click on PAIR NOW.
-       Go to the physical vehicle within 20 minutes selecting the PAIR NOW option, click any button on the remote, and the voice prompt on the unit will announce “Remote Paired”
-       Go back to MY PROFILE in the top navigation bar and select CONFIGURE DRIVERS.
This page will display your list of remotes paired with the unit
-       Click on ASSIGN DRIVER on the right to associate a driver with a remote control
. Complete the pop up form with a driver name

To pair an additional Remote Control to your MiX 3000 unit: (optional)

You can either send a SMS message from any mobile phone to the unit or you can do this from the website.

To do this from the website, go to MY PROFILE in the top navigation bar and select UPDATE MY VEHICLE’S PROFILE, then click on OTHER ACTIONS.  Scroll down to the section on pairing new remotes and click on PAIR NOW. Follow the voice prompts – this will provide additional instructions and indicate that you need to click the OK button when confirming Driver ID.

To do this via mobile phone enter the MiX 3000's phone number and submit in the following format:

<MiX 3000 access password> 14

Caution: When the SMS message is received by your MiX 3000 unit, it will enter remote pairing mode so that you can pair a new remote control unit with it. Ensure that you go to the unit and pair the new Remote Control with it immediately. An SMS and e-mail message will be sent to the MiX 3000 owner informing him/her that a new remote control unit has been paired. Note: the reply is sent to the MiX 3000 owner and not to the cell phone from which the original SMS was sent.

To use your Business or Private Driving feature, when it comes to the point that you would normally press the OK button to confirm the Driver ID, you would instead, press the red button for private driving use, and the green button for business driving use.  The system will automatically understand that if you press the red or green buttons instead of the OK button, you also are using Driver ID.

MiX 3000 and your Contact List

What is a “contacts list”?

For each driving event you can create a list of people that will receive SMS or email notifications.

What about my privacy?

You control who has access to your information. Cell phone location requests require the MiX 3000 number and access code. When someone queries the location of a vehicle, email notifications will be sent to you. If you no longer want them to have the ability to query your vehicle, simply change your access code on this website. Go to “Update My Vehicle’s Profile” and then click on “Other Settings”.

What about the safety of my personal details?

All of your personal and vehicle details are stored securely on our site. You can share your username and code in order for others to view and manage vehicles. MiX Telematics will not disclose your details to third parties unless you desire it, as in the case of insurance purposes.

MiX 3000 and your Remote Control

What can my remote control do?

Use your remote control to interact with the MiX 3000, administer self tests, arm your vehicle and send alerts. Use the alert button to send notifications.

What is the alert button?

The orange button on your remote control is a child proof alert button. Slide down the safety strip and press the button to send an alert button notification. The Matrix Recovery Service Control Centre and contacts you specified on the MiX3000 website will receive an SMS and/or email notification, depending on which options you selected.

What does the alert button do?

Once pressed, an alert button notification is sent to the Matrix Recovery Service Control Centre.

Can I use my remote control in emergencies?

You can send out alert button notifications in emergency situations. However, it is advisable not to use your remote control openly in a hi-jacking situation. Pressing the button in front of a volatile or violent person could provoke them further.

MiX 3000 and your Mobile Phone

What can I do with my mobile phone?

Interact with the system quickly and easily via your cell phone. All you need is the unit’s unique cell number. SMS your unit to request vehicle location, to top up airtime, test your system, set and re-set your odometer or access password, and pair remotes.

How do I activate these services?

You can send SMS messages from any phone, anywhere in the world where there is network coverage.  Send an SMS to your unit’s number with your access code and the correct number code.  See below for details.

MiX 3000 Events

Harsh Braking Event

What is Harsh Braking?

Harsh Braking is the event that occurs when a vehicle slows down in a very short space of time. Not only can this be dangerous, but increases the wear and tear on various parts of your vehicle, for example the vehicle’s brakes.

How does the MiX 3000 record Harsh Braking?

The unit is setup to monitor speed over time. So Harsh Braking would be setup by recording by how much your vehicle slows down over a short period of time.

Can I determine how sensitive the event can be?

Yes. You can select from a couple of options in the Advanced Settings page, which allows the event to be more sensitive or less sensitive.

Harsh Acceleration Event

What is Harsh Acceleration?

Harsh Acceleration is when the vehicle speeds up too quickly. As is the case with Harsh Braking – not only can this be dangerous, but can have recognisable impact on your vehicle, especially when it comes to fuel usage.

How does the MiX 3000 record Harsh Acceleration?

As is the case with Harsh Braking, the unit is setup to monitor how fast your vehicle goes, over time. So Harsh Acceleration events are measured by calculating by how much your vehicle speeds up, over a short period of time.

Can I determine how sensitive the event can be?

Yes. You can select from a couple of options in the Advanced Settings page, which allows the event to be more sensitive or less sensitive.

Impact Detect Event

What is the Impact Detect event?

An Impact Detect event is when the unit measures that there has been an impact with another object. The Event, as with other events, can be set up to send a notification to someone when this happens.

How does the MiX 3000 measure an Impact Detect event?

The unit calculates the amount of g-force exerted in the event of the vehicle colliding with something else. Based on that, if the g-force is above a certain threshold, the event is recorded.

Can I determine how sensitive the event can be?

No, you cannot.

Overspeeding Event

What is the Overspeeding Event?

An overspeeding event is when the unit measures that the vehicle is driving at a speed greater than the threshold set in the Vehicle Profile properties.

How does the MiX 3000 measure an Overspeeding event?

The unit uses GPS (Global Positioning System) to record speed.  Most receivers compute speed by a combination of movement per unit time and computing the doppler shift in the pseudo range signals from the satellites.

Can I determine what my overspeeding threshold can be?

Yes, you can select your threshold speed in your selection criteria in your vehicle profile.

How do I upgrade my MiX 3000 product?

The unit itself does not need to be upgraded, nor will you need to purchase another unit to receive additional advanced features. MiX Telematics will notify you about service and feature upgrades and explain how to upgrade your unit. As the MiX 3000 is an evolving product, expect more exciting features to be available soon!

What is a Geofence, and how do I create one?

A geofence is another name for creating a Location or a Map Item on the map, and also being notified if something occurs in this location. Once you have created a geofence on the area, you have the further option to set this up as an event that will notify you if your vehicle has started, stopped, entered or exited this geofence. Some customers also set up locations in certain areas where they do not want their vehicles to be, and would refer to these as “No-Go Zones”.

What happens if my vehicle is stolen?

Please call into our Hijack line 0800 111 322 (SA only) as soon as you recognise that your vehicle has been stolen or is missing. Our highly skilled response centre will be able to assist you to the best of their ability with the whereabouts of your vehicle and assist you with recovery.

When I log in, I can only see the last 10 points of my last trip. Why is that?

The default screen once you have logged in, is the Active Tracking screen. By default, it only displays the last 10 points of that vehicle. If you do go and plot the trip in your Vehicle History section, you will be able to see all the information you need.

Why do I hear interference from my MiX 3000 speaker?

The interference you may hear, coming from the speaker, means that the Voice option is activated on your MiX 3000.  Should you wish to activate or deactivate the speaker, it can be done by using the SHIFT > ORANGE BUTTON.
There are 3 possible modes that the speaker can be in:
Mode 1. Shift > Orange button : Voice activated
Mode 2. Shift > Orange button : Voice diagnostic activated ( it is recommended not to use this mode )
Mode 3. Shift > Orange button: Voice, (and) diagnostics deactivated.
An additional voice mode will be coming soon.
If you hear interference coming from your speaker, it is most likely that you are in Mode 1.
In order to deactivate this, press the Shift > Orange button cycle twice, and you should hear that deactivation has now occurred. Keep in mind that the mode selection happens in a loop, so if you miss the option, keep toggling this option until you reach the deactivation mode again

Why do my notifications of events sometimes appear to come through incorrectly, if not at all?

If your vehicle is out of GSM coverage, any settings or updates, you've set up on the website and sent through to your vehicle, may not be delivered. A good check of this is to see whether the notification (sms and email) of the new settings that have been sent to your vehicle, have been delivered to your email inbox or to your mobile phone. If this has not happened, and you did not receive the confirmation of new settings transferred to your unit / vehicle, the chances are that the vehicle was out of GSM coverage and therefore the sms with the new settings was not delivered successfully. Remember that because the MiX 3000 makes use of GSM service providers, if there are any network issues or cell tower traffic, this too could create a delay.
To resend the settings again, in your vehicle profile, please go to "Other Actions" and then click on the button that will send settings to your vehicle again.

Installation-specific FAQs

Is the MiX 3000 unit protected against reverse polarity?

Yes.

What is the purpose of the in-line harness fuse?

The fuse provides protection in the event of an installation accidentally being done on the wrong side of the vehicle fuse system. It protects against potential short circuits in the MiX 3000 harness and protects the unit from huge current surges.

Can the unit work in 24V vehicles?

The unit itself does not have built-in 12v/24v support but does have a converter harness available, should this unit be installed into 24v vehicles. A Future development will include built in 12v/24v support.

How does ambient temperature affect the MiX 3000 unit?

As a reliability precaution, the MiX 3000 unit will shut down when it reaches an internal temperature greater than 70 degrees Celsius. It will automatically restart once the unit cools down again. The unit also stops charging the internal backup battery above 45 degrees Celsius, but this should be of no consequence as the unit runs off the car battery at all times and keeps its internal battery fully charged automatically.

What is the current rating of the inline harness fuse?

5 Amps

How do I reset the MiX 3000 unit if it is in an uncertain state?

You can reset the unit by pushing the Shift (up arrow) button twice, followed by the Alert (orange) button.

How do I pair a new Remote Control Unit with the MiX 3000 unit?

You can do this from the Web Site under the ‘Other Settings’ tab of the ‘Manage Vehicle Profile’ page or using an SMS message as described above.

How much current does the MiX 3000 unit draw in ‘Sleep Mode’

Approximately 25mA

Are there any user serviceable parts inside the MiX 3000 casing?

No.

How long will the back-up battery last if the car battery is disconnected?

More than 4 hours.
